The department of Mechanical Engineering established in the year 1980 is situated in the A and B Blocks of the institute.The department, with experienced and dedicated faculty members, and excellent facilities striving to impart sound knowledge in engineering science and excellent practical training to the students.

The Institute has established

STEP (Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Park) with the assistance from (National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board), NSTEDB - D.S.T. (Dept. of Science & Technology), GOVERNMENT OF INDIA & Department of Industries and Commerce, GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA so that the enormous potential of the young entrepreneurs of Chikmagalur district may be developed to keep Karnataka State & India abreast in the latest technology thrust areas such as : Biotechnology, Information Technology, Automation in manufacturing Technology, Power & Energy Sector, Communication & microelectronics, Tourism, Biomedical Technology, Environmental Science, Construction Technology, Nuclear and Space Technology.
